At Mt Evelyn Vet Clinic and Animal Hospital we have a dedicated surgical suite and all vets are available to perform surgical procedures.

We regularly perform sterile surgeries, including desexing, orthopaedic, soft tissue, cancer and emergency surgery.

General anaesthesia and your pet

Each animal undergoing surgery will be appointed a dedicated veterinarian and surgical nurse. Your pet will be checked on the morning of the anaesthetic, and you can discuss any other concerns with the vet.

For all pets undergoing a general anaesthetic, we also recommend pre anaesthetic blood testing and perioperative intravenous fluids. Intravenous fluids assist in maintaining optimal blood pressure throughout the anaesthetic and ensures a quicker recovery. Pre anaesthetic blood testing checks that organs such as the kidney and liver are functioning properly. This test can be performed in our in house laboratory on the day of the procedure.

Pain relief:

At Mt Evelyn Vet Clinic and Animal Hospital we ensure that all animals obtain adequate pain relief- it is not an optional extra. Each pet having surgery at our clinic will have an individual pain management strategy planned by the vet, for during and after the surgery.
